What are deck-mounted taps?
Question
“I’d like to purchase some wood kitchen work surfaces, a sink and some sink taps. I’ve been browsing your website and found a set of taps I really like. I noticed that you refer to them as ‘deck-mounted’ taps – what does that mean?”
Answer
All of our taps can be described as deck-mounted. This means that they can be installed on your worktop, rather than the wall, and are also described as ‘surface-mounted’. Deck-mounted taps can sometimes be fixed directly to the sink itself if the sink has been equipped with a tap hole. The term simply means that the bottom of the tap sits flush against the surface it is mounted on. For taps with a bridge design – ‘deck mixer’ taps – this is usually not possible, as two tap holes will be required.
Our worktop customisation service is available if you’d like your wooden work surfaces to come with a hole ready to accommodate your new tap. A standard tap hole is 35mm, though other sizes are also available (so please check before placing your order). We recommend that the centre point of a tap hole is situated 60mm from the edge of the sink. Please read our handy guide to tap hole cut-outs to find out more!
