Today’s ‘Question of the Week’ was sent in by Brian from Birmingham. Brian is concerned about a burn mark that has appeared on his kitchen worktops and would like to know if there is any way to repair this.

Question:

“I bought your wooden worktops a few months ago and have been really pleased with how fantastic they’ve looked from the start – though now that I’ve built up several layers of oil they look even better! However, the other day I left a hot pan on the work surface and forgot all about it, and now there is a scorch mark – how can I repair it?”

Thanks, too, for sending in your question about wood worktop repair. One of the many great benefits of our worktops is that they are constructed from 100% solid timber, making them one of the easiest surfaces to repair. You can even repair them yourself – without requiring any specialist equipment – removing the need to pay additional labour costs for an external contractor.

Burn marks on worktops are easy to repair in just a couple of simple steps:

Sand the damaged area with 240 grit sandpaper until the scorch mark is completely removed. This is fine-quality sandpaper, which will help achieve the best possible result, though it may take a little time to eradicate the mark.

Re-apply two coats of Osmo Top Oil to the affected area, allowing each coating of oil to dry before applying another.
