We use HABiol - an industrial grade oil - to pre-oil our worktops, coating the top, bottom, sides and ends of the surface. This provides the work surfaces with a strong, resistant finish and is required for worktops with any other bespoke services applied.
To keep your wooden worktops in optimal condition, subsequent coats of oil will need to be applied after delivery - as it acclimatises to its new environment - and after installation. We recommend using Osmo Top Oil for this, as it is compatible with the HABiol we use in our specialist machinery.
Cut-to-size
If you need your kitchen worktops cut-to-size, we offer a worktop cutting service that will ensure surfaces meet your size requirements. Our professional service can cut both the width and the length to achieve the precise dimensions required.
Please note: It is recommended to use our edge finishing service for edges that have been cut and will be visible as they may show marks from the manufacturing process.
Edge Finishing
We offer an edge finishing service for our solid wood worktops to remove any marks that may have been left via other bespoke worktop services and manufacturing processes. Edges are prepared, filled where required and sanded to provide a neat finish to ensure your worktop is ready for installation.
Edge finishing is recommended where worktop edges will be visible once installed. Not all edges are finished as standard, and whilst all edges will be smooth, some may show marks From the manufacturing process.
Edge Profiling
Our wooden worktops are sold with a square edge as standard, but you may wish to utilise our edge profiling service to achieve a different look. These edge profiles provide a smooth, hardwearing edge for your work surface, and we have a number of styles available to suit your home.
We recommend utilising this service if your work surface is being customised with ellipse ends or radius corners.
Radius Corners
Wooden kitchen worktops can be cut to precisely match any kitchen doors with radius corners, creating an even, smooth, streamlined finish.
We can cut to standard supplied manufacturer's radii, or bespoke sizes if required. Radius corners can also be added to the end of a row of units to provide a softer, safe finish - particularly beneficial when young children are a concern.
Butt Joint
Solid wood kitchen worktops should only be joined with a standard butt joint. Our fabrication team will rout three apertures for worktop connector bolts to the underside of both worktops.
Once the worktops arrive on site, you will simply have to bolt the worktops together by tightening three worktop connector bolts (supplied).
We recommend inserting a worktop sealant between the worktops when joining to create a water-resistant join.
Overmounted Sink Cut-out
We can cut wooden worktops to accommodate overmounted sinks - simply supply us with the dimensions and we will take care of the rest.
For stability, we recommend at least 100mm is left between the end of the worktop and the start of the aperture.
Please ensure you're providing the cut out dimensions for your sink rather than the internal/external dimensions to ensure your sink fits as expected.
Undermounted Sink Cut-out
Provide us with the measurements and we can cut solid wood worktops to fit any undermounted sink.
The top edge of the cut-out will be profiled to allow for adequate water drainage unless otherwise requested.
Please ensure you're providing the cut out dimensions for your sink rather than the internal/external dimensions to ensure your sink fits as expected.
Belfast Sink Cut-out
A Belfast sink is a popular option with a solid wood work surface and we can cut yours to accommodate any size of sink, creating a bespoke template for every order. The inside top edge of the worktop will be profiled to allow for drainage, unless requested otherwise.
Please ensure you're providing the cut out dimensions for your sink rather than the internal/external dimensions to ensure your sink fits as expected.
Irregular Cut-out
Every kitchen is unique, and our irregular cut-out service accommodates this.
Whether you require cut-outs for lights, electrical sockets, extractor fans or extruding walls or beams, our fabrication team are able to cut to exact dimensions.
Tap Hole Cut-out
The standard tap hole diameter is 35mm, but there are other sizes available in. Let us know the required diameter and we will cut your wooden worktops to accommodate.
We always cut slightly larger than required to allow for the natural contraction and expansion of solid wood.
Drainage Grooves
Drainage grooves are an attractive addition to any solid wood worktop, and we highly recommended choosing at least one set of drainage grooves when opting for an undermounted or Belfast sink.
We offer three configuration options for our drainage grooves - fan, fountain and straight - all tapered to ensure drainage is effective. Our drainage grooves are routed in sets of 6 and the standard length is 450mm, although we can accommodate longer or shorter lengths if required.
End Caps
End caps should be used when installing wooden worktops adjacent to freestanding ovens (Rangemaster, Aga, Rayburn etc).
End caps are created by cutting a worktop across the width, and then joining the offcut to the end of the worktop in question. This conceals the end grain, preventing this section From drying out and splitting over time as a result of prolonged exposure to excessive heat.
Worktop end caps also portray a "finished" look and are sometime requested purely as a feature.
Standard end cap width is 40mm and full stave end cap width is 90mm, although bespoke sizes can also be created if required.
Hob Cut-out
Apertures for built-in hobs can be routed to any size, so we can provide cut-out for hobs From a wide variety of brands.
We will also cut the inside corners square if required.
We highly recommend leaving a 100mm gap between the edge of the cut-out and the end of the worktop, to ensure that the strength and stability of the worktop is not compromised.
Please ensure you're providing the cut out dimensions for your hob rather than the internal/external dimensions to ensure your hob fits as expected.
Tapered Cuts
A diagonal cut From any two points on a work surface, tapered cuts can be used for a multitude of reasons.
Ideal for an unusually shaped kitchen, these cuts could also be used to create a striking feature in your kitchen - perhaps as part of a breakfast bar, peninsula or island.
Ellipse Ends
Ellipse ends provide a sleek semi-circular end on a solid wood worktop, perfect for breakfast bars, peninsulas or islands. We can cut worktops to any radius, just let us know what you need.
We can create and deliver bespoke oversized worktops in any of our timber species that are larger than our standard sizes that are ideal for kitchen islands.
Please note: these oversized worktops will be delivered in sections and can easily be joined onsite using the preprepared 'butt joints'.
